The Nebula platform
From the circuit board to the cloud, Hazrien Nazman builds every layer of the Nebula IoT platform, now running for more than 20 clients.
SHAH ALAM — The Nebula IoT Management System turns vending and other unattended machines into connected devices that report payments and sales in real time. Hazrien took it from concept to launch in about six months of R&D and now owns it as product owner, with more than 300 machines running for over 20 clients.
The work runs the full length of the stack. Hazrien designed the NebulaMQTT controller board in KiCad, wrote its ESP-IDF firmware, built the Node.js and MQTT backend, and runs the private broker in Docker. Data processing became 25% more efficient after the API was re-architected.
Support continues after a machine ships: 95% of issues on deployed products are resolved within 24 hours.
Full Stack Edition
Hazrien integrated UQPAY, Coins.ph and Safaricom into Payrallel, a payment orchestration platform with 2,760 terminals, 15 gateways and up to 37 payment methods, built on Node.js and MongoDB on DigitalOcean. Hazrien also led the backend of MARS, the voucher and points system redeemed on Payrallel-powered vending machines.

NebulaMQTT, designed in KiCad, connects machines to the Nebula platform. Its successor, NebulaMQTT V2, runs ESP-IDF on an ESP32-S3 with two pulse outputs, one pulse input and two RS232 ports, so machines can log cash payments and accept QR. Firmware R&D raised connectivity and performance by 30%.

As product owner, Hazrien leads a six-person team of three backend and three frontend developers while personally delivering all PCB and firmware work. Five products are in production, from NebulaMQTT to the T05 Helmet Washer, each run from client request through release and support.

A dual-chip build: the P4 drives the display and app logic while the C6 handles Wi-Fi and BLE. Python bridges on the PC feed it media controls and player positions. May 2026.
